Other graphic file formats would be nice

I'm not sure, but I think the upload works with JPEG images only.
I think it would be great to be able to upload an archive containing a PNG or PSD file with transparencies for isolated things to be easier to use as elements in a composition.
Maybe a JPEG image should be mandatory for the thumbnail preview and so on and other formats for downloading.
Choosing from several formats would be great, like clipping paths EPS, TIFF with paths or alpha channels, PNG with transparency and/or layered PSD.
For vector graphics something like AI, EPS, CDR, SVG formats too.
I'm sure there is much work to do for now, but maybe some day these will be possible.
Anyway this is my opinion, I don't know what others think.

At this moment you can only upload JPG. The best is uploading JPG's with a RGB color space. We need to convert CYMK to RGB because some browsers will not show CYMK images.
PNG would be OK I guess. We could easily resize it for thumbnails. PSD is a proprietary file format that could give all sorts of legal issues?
I will put at least the PNG on my to do list. Indeed there is some work to do

jpg2000 may be a viable image format option

This format supports alpha channels and is not as bandwidth heavy as png.

I'm not particularly wanting anything but what we have, but if you intend to accept other formats, would gif be possible? That would open the place to animated items, and I'm not certain that's the direction we should take.

I don't think png is bandwidth heavy, atleast doesn't have to be if I'm not mistaken.
Also we can possible convert gif to png for thumbnails, atleast then they are all the same thumbnails (and we can use free tools, gif-compression is patented, atleast used to be)

For photographic images, files saved as png are much larger than the same files saved as jpeg or jpeg2000. This may make little difference for thumbnails or small graphics but on larger high resolution images the difference is substantial.
I just did a quick test on one of my images saved in several different formats. The image saved as png was over four times larger (over 9 megs) than the jpeg of the same file (2 megs).
Jpeg 2000 has the advantage of higher image quality for the same file size and the ability to include alpha channels.

Having looked at other sites where they are trying to be all things to everyone, I think it gets sort of busy and too much. If we did have other images, perhaps another section of the site just for those would make it look less chaotic.

Maybe we should gun at quality first, and good relevant images that people want in every genre, and have a good search engine and site to support it.

Still working on searchengine though and not making as much progress as I hoped. But I have some new ideas.
